The Intimidated Christian

Still on the matter of false prophets ....

The ordinary Christian is an intimidated lot.  Maybe I should qualify it better this way, “The undiscerning Christians who are being led by the nose are an intimidated lot”.   And they are greatly intimidated by one of the favorite threats of false teachers and false prophets, i.e.  “Touch not the Lord’s Anointed”.  But is every preacher, every bible teacher, every self-appointed apostle and every prophet anointed by God?  Think!

Hey, how am I supposed to know if you are really the Lord’s anointed or if in fact you have been anointed by the devil if I do not care to check and ask questions?  Does not the bible say “Test all things” ?  So, is not asking questions a way to test all things?

Note also that Ps 105:15 says,

Psa 105:15    Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

which actually says do not physically harm or injure the God’s prophets.  It does not say do not test them or do not question them!  See how easily you can be misled?

And who are the anointed ones?  The bible says::

2Co 1:21  Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

So, what makes you believe that only the leaders and special persons are anointed.  Every Christian is anointed.  That includes you, right?  You are not anointed only because you read the bible but do not believe the bible.

An Objection Against Questioning

On Friday 20^th Jan, 2012, I posted this question about an amazingly anointed evangelist on the Facebook wall of a friend:

Hi PR, does this Evangelist Daniel have his own church? This particular video POWER MINISTRY JAN 13-15 ~2011~ BANGALORE shows him displaying a bit of showmanship ...... Benny Hinn style with his coat. The more I view his videos, the more I have that suspicious feeling

It was a just a question and a statement of fact that I have certain suspicions.  But that earned a reply from a friend of that Facebook friend who was not too happy with that an anointed of the Lord is being questioned:

You fellows have any other work to do? Jealous guys.

We were immediately accused of being “jealous” and implying we are gossipers ( do we have any other work to do?).  So it is ok for this friend of a friend to judge and accuse us, but it is not ok for us to question and investigate first.  So, we find the “Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judge” verse being used against us by a person who had first judged us without reading our motives.  And this friend of a friend is obviously driven by that fearful phrase “Touch Not the Lord’s Anointed” and rushed in to protect the Lord's anointed one.  Should I term this this person's attitude as naivety or should I term the person as an undiscerning follower of signs and wonders?

Let me make a point clear at this stage.  I am not saying that the Evangelist Daniel Mohan Singh is a fake.  I am only asking questions about his tendency to emulate the showmanship-style of Benny Hinn.  Now we all know that Benny Hinn is a proven false prophet ( Youtube:  Benny Hinn's False Prophecies   ), a proven false teacher of funny doctrines ( Listen Superman Adam etc   ) and a proven adulterer while preaching holiness ( Youtube : Benny Hinn admits an inappropriate relationship with Paula White   ) , who also would happen to say a lot of good things about Jesus and have a great testimony to tell, plus a lot of amazing acts of anointing to show you!

Jesus Warned… The Bible Warns

But let me also warn you with these few verses from Jesus, and the bible:

Mat 24:23  Then if anyone says to you, “Look, here is the Christ!" or “There!" do not believe it. Mat 24:24  For false Christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Rev 13:12  And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.  Rev 13:13  He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men.

So am I saying Evangelist Daniel is a false prophet or that his power comes from the devil at this point in time?  Good grief, NO!  All I am saying is, let us check out his fruits and discern first.  Praise the Lord if he is from God.  Expose him if he is false.

The Great Effect of The False Prophets’ Threat

“Touch not the Lord’s Anointed, or else …….”  You know, human beings have the knick of fearing the devil and the servant of the devil more than they fear God and the servant of God.

God told Adam do not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil lest you die.  Neither Adam nor Eve believed.  The devil told Eve “Ye shall not surely die” if they eat of it, and both believed the devil.

The bible says “Greater is he that is in you and he that is in the world”, so we should not fear things of the dark nor unknown shadows.  Yet, my young son fears the dark and cannot believe that the Holy Spirit is in him.

The servant of God tells us Jesus said that we are supposed to be perfect as the Father in heaven is perfect; we should worry about our sinning nature and strive not to sin.  We find that troubling.  But the false teacher says “we are human beings and we are not supposed to be perfect, so don’t worry about sinning”; and we are comforted.

Human being do tend to obey the devil more than God, especially if they choose to douse the fire of the Spirit in their lives.

So, the bible says to us to judge, and especially to judge against things that are wrong within the church, to use the word of God to reprove, to correct and to teach.  But the devil’s preachers tell us not to judge, lest we be judged.  And we believe the devil more than God.

Read and know

Paul criticized Peter, and recorded it in the bible so that for the last 2000 years, Christians can read about it; yet Peter never chided Paul “Touch not the Lord’s anointed”. Gal 2:11

False teachings and the names of false teachers like Hymanaeus and Alexander are exposed in the bible. 1Ti 1:20   Bad leaders like Diotrephes are named. 3Jn 1:9

The Bereans tested Paul’s teachings in Acts Acts 17:11 and were praised for it.

The Church of Ephesus tested those who call themselves apostles ( so, what about prophets?) and found them to be false; Jesus commended them for it. Rev 2

The bible says “test all things”.  1Th 5:21 and that is what we must do.

We are told to judge Christians 1Co 5:12, and not to judge the world.

Conclusion

“Touch not the Lord’s anointed” is not to be taken to mean that the false teacher and false prophet is not to be criticized.  We are supposed to judge and judge we will, starting with those that are in the church.  False teachers and false prophets are IN the church.

And, a complete teaching must include attention to Jesus’s reply to John in Luke 9:49-51 :

Luk 9:49  Now John answered and said, Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow with us.  Luk 9:50  But Jesus said to him, Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side.

And that would mean to me that while we can criticize and warn others about the falsehood, and even name them we are not to take any physical action to stop him from doing what he is doing.  We do not go into his gathering to disrupt his activities neither do we take any court injunction against his operations.  But speak out, we must on the areas that are wrong.  Yet, before we can know what is being taught or done wrongly, does it not start with questioning?  Does questioning amount to touching the anointed?

Jesus says in John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."

Of late, I had noticed on my Facebook wall many postings about Christian prophets and their prophecies.

The bible has this to say: 

Heb 1:1  “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Heb 1:2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;” 

To me, the verse seems to say God does not need to use prophets to speak to Christians any more.  So, why are there so many prophets all over the Christian communities?  Maybe I would prefer to think that the verse is merely saying that God does not need to use prophets to speak to us anymore on matters concerning His plan of salvation, which has already been done and completed in Jesus.  God may still use a person or other to speak to any individual or group concerning certain specific matters that affect them. 

And charlatans are quick to jump on this golden opportunity to make money selling predictions, books, cds, collecting seminar fees,  and taking love-gift collections from of naïve Christians.  And just as there are many false prophets there are even more naive Christians.

Malaysia has its own fair share of self-proclaimed prophets who love prophesying over other people, and they cannot care two-hoots that most of what they prophesy never come to pass.

Christians Who Are Drawn to Prophets

Selling books, cds, taking offerings

Many Christians simply love to follow prophets, much as they claim that they actually follow Jesus Christ only.  Well, they deceive themselves.  One can simply see they hang on to every word of prophecy of the prophet of their choosing.  They fail miserably to understand the bible’s high standards for a prophet.  The bible is clear …….. one missed prophecy and he is a false prophet. So, he can get 50 prophecies right and one wrong.  That makes him a false prophet.  The bible says that, and you better believe it:

Deu 18:22  When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

The first mark of a false prophet is saying prophecies do not need to be 100% accurate.   And in saying that, the false prophet is also saying God lies in Deu 18:22 and God does not mean what He says. No, The bible says it mus be 100% accurate.

So, why in the world would any Christian want to follow after a false prophet?  It is probably leftover pagan desire to know the future.  If you ask, you might get this response “But he is more often than not accurate in his predictions!” or “But he can do so many miracles!”  Often is not good enough.  To me, a false prophet is a false prophet.  Once proven false, I would not want to hear one word from him.  As for miracles, remember that Jesus warned us that even satan and his servants can do great miracles.  Read Rev 13 and you will find that the false prophet can call publicly down fire from heaven and even give life to a statue and make it speak.   So, I am not going blindly to chase after miracle workers either.  Always watch for the fruits of the so-called servant of God.

 

The Real Prophets Never Miss

Just read the book of Isaiah.  Every chapter is filled with prophecies made from 10’s to 100’s of years in advance, and many have come to pass in the history of the Middle East and Egypt.  Among the examples are : a temple was indeed built to the Lord as predicted, in Egypt by migrating Jews, King Cyrus of Persia was born a 150 years after he was named in the bible, and he did exactly what he was predicted to do,  an insignificant Babylon was predicted to rise up and destroy Jerusalem tens of years before it actually happened.  The book of Isaiah was so accurate that unbelieving academics had to invent the silly reason that these predictions were inserted into the book of Isaiah after the events happened.  Dumb academics – the whole book of Isaiah are filled with fulfilled prophecies, so the whole book of Isaiah must have been written after new testament times?  Deliberately dumb.  The only prophecies yet to be fulfilled in the book of Isaiah are those pertaining to the 2^nd coming of Jesus and the eternal kingdom.  You would find similar accurately fulfilled prophecies in the book of Ezekiel ( see the destruction of Tyre ), book of Jeremiah, book of Daniel; in fact, every book.

The prophet of God never fails, not even once simply because he speaks the word of God; and every word of God is true.

Why Does God Allow False Prophet to Operate?

This I know.  God says he sends false prophets to test His followers.

Deu 13:1  If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,

Deu 13:2  and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ˜Let us go after other gods"--which you have not known--˜and let us serve them," Deu 13:3  you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deu 13:4  You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.

I would not follow any false prophet, not even for a moment in the hope of gaining something good out of him.  The devil can also give you things that seem good, but there is always a snare somewhere.

I also know that God does allow even non-believers to use His name to cast out demons.  See Luke 9:49-50 or Mar 9:38-39.  As long as His name is glorified, He allows it.  But having said so, I also that God does not reward these people in heaven, for they have received their rewards already in cash and handclaps.  Neither will God grant them salvation, for when they say to the Lord :

Mat 7:22  Many will say to Me in that day, ˜Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?"

the Lord replies them,

Mat 7:23 ˜I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!"

So, it is very clear.  Even if they are Christian leaders who call on the Jesus Lord, and perform miracles, if they had misused their anointing to serve their worldly lusts, they are not going into the kingdom of God

Tricks of False Prophets

Now, fortune-tellers and diviners can also make predictions and get some right. I have seen foolish people ( non-Christians ) going to diviners and palm readers to get their fortunes foretold.  I must admit that I was one of them in the days before I came to know Jesus.  Everyone knows that not every prediction made by these charlatans will come true; in fact most would not come true.  But they will still visit them just hoping to hear something they want to hear, either to convince themselves of some pre-held notion or comfort.  This is the extent of our deceitful heart.  We even allow our own deceitful heart to deceive ourselves.  We allow it.

A common trick is that false prophets often make predictions that are so vague that it is up to you to decide if it has been fulfilled or not.  And the charlatan can claim an accurate hit whether that thing occurs or not.   A good example in the bible is the case of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah’s visit to the king of Israel in 1King 22.  When the 2 kings consulted the false prophets for their divination on their proposed act of war against the king of Syria, the false prophets replied: “Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.”  Well, they did not say to which king would the Lord deliver it to.  The king could well be the king of Judah, the king of Israel and also the opposing king of Syria.  And that exactly is how most modern day Christian prophets work.

Another common trick is to keep in touch with the political and financial news, make some quick judgment of the probabilities and “prophesize” to the church.    One such visiting prophet ( too bad I forgot his name ) in Malaysia some years back that the next Prime Minister of Malaysia after Mahathir would come out of the south.  That was because it was already hot news that Najib Razak from Johor would likely succeed Mahathir.  Well, Mahathir pulled a surprise decision by rejecting Najib and appointed Abdullah Badawi some few months later.  The prophet of course, collected his love gift collection from the church and went back to Australia where he came from.  So much for prophets.   False prophets also make predictions on disasters concerning areas already known for disaster risks.  So predictions for a great  earthquake in a  place like Florida at at a distant future or tsunami around Asia would be a safe bet.

A third trick is to make predictions that are so far away that by time the predictions are supposed to be fulfilled both you and the prophet are dead.   But he died with many of his books and cds sold.

Some of the more prominent fakes today

Proven false are people like Benny Hinn who predicted God will destroy New Orleans with fire, which did not happen and instead Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans with a flood.  He also predicted the death of Fidel Castro before the year 2000, and Fidel Castro lived right through it.  Chuck Pierce is a known Kabbalist ( which puts him into the occultist category ) and has even admitted to his mistakes in prophecies.  Names associated with false prophecies are Rick Joyner, Juanita Baum, Kim Clement, Peter C Wagner and members  of Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders, members of the Kansas City Prophets.  Come to think of it, they are mostly from the USA!

Conclusion

True prophets never miss.  The bible warns against false prophets and false teachers.  They are nothing more than diviners who use  the name of the Lord for monetary gain at the expense of naïve Christians.  A Christian of 30 years can often be a naïve Christian.

The false prophets speak presumptuously when the Lord has not spoken.  Just as the false prophets spoke falsely to King Ahab and King Jehoshaphat.  They make a good living by speaking falsely to soothe itching ears.

Well, well, well! 2012 is just another 2 days away!

It is interesting to note that many Christians have been asking me what I think about the 2012 and the end of the world. “There is even an exciting movie about the end on 2012! What do you think?”

Why bother even to ask, unless you are fearful of these predictions, I say.  Did not the Lord say of the “Mar 13:32  But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.”,  and Acts 1:7 “ It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. "  But ask they did, half-believing and half-unbelieving; and that can only happen because their own teachers and leaders have failed to teach them properly, which is something I always lament.

You Have Been Fore-warned

The world is full of false prophets and false teachers ……. even false Christs. Did not the bible warn us of them?  I have always emphasized bible reading and believing, and am always against Christian books reading.  When one reads the bible with a simple believing mind and heart, one gets clear answers from God.  But instead of reading bibles, Christians are fond of reading and believing books, which tells you somebody’s opinion of what the bible means.  And authors are driven by their desire for profits from high sales volume, not the truth.  And sensation sells.  Fear sells.  They are not interested in telling you the truth.  They just want your $$$$.  So too, the tele-evangelists!

Is It So Easy To Be A Prophet of God?

Deu 18:22 says: When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.  This so clearly tells us that a true prophet will never miss.  If he misses just once, he has not spoken for the Lord.  It is truly difficult to be a true prophet.  Imagine, 999 true predictions and one miss makes you a false prophet!  So, forget about all the books, the Mayan calendar researchers and the NASA information and Planet X and Nabiru doomsayers.  Nothing comes anywhere near what the bible tells you.

The Latest (rich) Fool

The last one in the long line of false prophets who became an embarrassment to himself ( for a short while at least, before they start all over again ) was Harold Camping, a 90 year-old radio

False prophecies make good business. 

 preacher who had predicted that the end would come on 21^st May 2011, publicized with over 6000 highway billboards, vehicle broadsides, banners and over the radio.  Thousands ( of silly Americans ) believed him and helped him to publicize it in street walks and processions.  Nothing happened on that day.  The shameless aged “experienced” preacher Harold Camping revised it to Oct 21^st, 2011.  Again, thousands of foolish Christians continued to believe in his revised date.  Well, we are still here and Harold Camping has disappeared ( with much $$$, I supposed ) , and those foolish Christians sheepishly went on with their daily lives ( do you ever wonder why Jesus call Christians "sheep" and not rabbits or ducks?).

The Next (rich) Fool : Jack Van Impe

Are you his follower?

 and that prediction is by the 82 year-old tele-evangelist Jack Van Impe, purportedly “the walking bible”, who will be confirmed a fool on that day.  Truly, experience does not make a man wiser.  Obedience to and fear of God do.  And I don’t care much for walking bibles or people who memorize the bible, or who read the bible without believing.   Jack Van Impe will be shown a fool, but he will be a rich fool because of greater fools who believe him and buy his books.

So, the usual evil perpetuated by evil doers will happen around the world in 2012.  The labour pains of earthquakes, pestilences, wars and rumors of wars shall happen, but of these, the Lord says “be ye not troubled”.  Be watchful for the real signs: which are things like the sun darkening and the moon not giving out light, the revealing of the name of the Antichrist and the mark of the beast, for you are children of the day and of the light that the Lord SHALL NOT come upon you like a thief in the night.  Until these real signs are revealed, the Lord shall not come, and if the Lord does not come, the end is not yet.  Beware of any “christ” who comes before that, lest you follow another christ.

A Few of the Past Record of Failed Predictions

Some of these names might surprise you.

1794: Charles Wesley ( surprise!) , one of the founders of Methodism, thought that Doomsday would occur in this year.

1832 Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon church ( a cult ) said, "I prophesy in the name of the Lord God, and let it be written--the Son of Man will not come in the clouds of heaven till I am eighty-five years old.", which is 1890.

1843-MAR-21: William Miller, founder of the Millerite movement, the predecessors of the 7^th Day Adventist church ( a cult ).  When it did not happen, he gave another date, 1844-OCT-22:

1850: Ellen G. White, founder of the Seven Day Adventists predicted on Jun 27^th 1850 “My accompanying angel said, 'Time is almost finished. Get ready, get ready, get ready.' ...now time is almost finished...and what we have been years learning, they will have to learn in a few months."

1874, 1878, 1881, 1910, 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, 1984 and 1994.  The champion of failed prophecies is the Jehovah Witness movement operating under the name of the Watchtower Organization.  They will never learn.

1981 Hal Lindsay, the author of that famous book and movie “Left Behind” said the rapture would occur before Dec. 31, 1981.

Con-men prey on foolish Christians

Oct 28, 1992 Lee Jang Rim predicted the end would come.  Incidentally he made 4.4 million dollars out of his 10,000 followers over this prediction, which he put into stocks and bonds which matured after his doomsday date.  He was jailed for it.
